Two Day West Macs Cruise 2022
Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park
30-04-2022 08:00 – 01-05-2022 16:00
IMPORTANT UPDATE: WEST MACS CRUISE CHANGE OF ROUTE.  ENTRIES DUE MONDAY Due to popular demand, the West Macs Cruise is now two days instead of three! People are telling us that they are worried they not fit enough for three days riding, or are just having trouble carving out three days from family obligations. So we have decided to cut it in half - but have twice as much fun! (and don't forget that one day options are still available) The first day is the same: Alice Springs to Ormiston Gorge. At 125k this is the longest - but you will be surprised at how achievable it is, with regular breaks and plenty of food stops along the way.  And Day 2 is a mere 56k to Tylers Pass for an early lunch.  The vehicles will join us there and after lunch we head home. So do join us -  members and friends of the Alice Springs Cycling Club - on this extraordinary two days of supported, fully catered road cycling through stunning desert country. Dates: Saturday April 30 – Sunday May 1 Accommodation: Camping in your own tent or swag at Ormiston Gorge.  The route: Day 1: Alice Springs to Ormiston Gorge Campground - 135k Day 2: Ormiston to Tylers Pass - 56k If you have never ridden over 100k in a day, this is your chance! This is a fully supported group ride with a tail vehicle if you need a break and a tucker van for the frequent breaks. Options for joining us for a single day ride and camp are also available.  All riders are expected to be able to ride safely in a peloton.  All riders must also attend a pre-race safety briefing and get-to-know-you BBQ on Thursday evening 28 April, 6.00pm. And… we still need volunteers!  Drivers of support vehicles and general assistants are needed – free participation and lots of good food on offer!   Tickets are available below.   These prices do NOT include your Auscycling membership which is compulsory for insurance purposes ($105 annually or $9 a month - google Auscycling membership to find out how).  ASCC membership must be added on to obtain member's discount. If you have juniors (high school aged) who want to come, please contact Andrea directly for discussion and junior pricing. Stuarts Well Gran Fondo
07:30 – 11:00
The Stuart’s Well Gran Fondo is the first of Alice Springs Cycling Club's three glorious Gran Fondo rides that we hold each year.  It is a favourite for both those who want to aim for a PB and those that want a social ride with a pretty awesome BBQ at the finish.  A bus and bike trailer will take you back to Alice (spaces are limited so please book). Families and friends are very welcome as long as they book and have their own transport home. At 90k you need a reasonable level of fitness, but a bus following the last riders will pick up anyone who is struggling.  You can also start at the prison if you want it a bit shorter (be sure to let the organisers know). Its a good workout to help ensure you are fit enough for the West Macs Cruise at the end of April. Because it is not a formal race, you are able to enter on an AusCycling Lifestyle membership, which gives you third party insurance cover for peace of mind.  It costs about $80, and a club membership add-on is less than $20 extra.  All riders will need to show proof of membership (on your phone is the best way). Details: Meet at the old Memo car park cnr Gap Rd and Stuart Tce. Neutral ride to opposite the prison on Stuart Hwy. Option to start at the prison. Finish at Stuart’s Well for BBQ lunch (riders to bring either a salad or dessert).  Entry fee is $10 for ASCC members and $20 for non-members; the bus is an extra $10 for ASCC members and $30 for non-members. For further information call Ben Kaethner on 0418859287  All riders are requested to bring either a salad or dessert, you will be asked to indicate which when you do you entry registration.   These can be dropped off to the lead vehicle at the start of the race.  NOTE - BRING PLENTY OF WATER, SNACKS AND SUNSCREEN
